ACA Extends Coverage for Former Foster Youth

More than 30,000 former foster youth in California are newly eligible for health care coverage, but unfortunately many of them are unaware. One of the hallmarks of the ACA is the option for young adults to stay on their parents’ insurance until age 26. Now, the ACA gives former foster youth the same protections by expanding their Medi-Cal coverage until age 26. Previously former foster youth were only eligible for health care until age 21.

There has been a critical need to expand health care coverage for this population as former foster youth are significantly less likely than their peers to have health insurance and often have greater health care needs due to abuse or neglect they experienced in childhood.

Paint Downtown Hanford Pink September 4th

The community is invited to help Adventist Health / Breast Care Center “Paint Downtown Pink” during the Thursday Night Market Place on Thursday, Sept. 4.

Everyone is welcome to wear pink and participate in a contest to win prizes and fitness items.

To promote physical activity, contestants will sign up at the Adventist Health booth to receive a pink pedometer. Then, they will be asked to walk for breast cancer awareness by completing 2,500 steps around the Market Place (about a mile and a quarter). Once completed, participants will receive a free gift while supplies last, and will be entered into a drawing to win larger prizes.

Prizes will also be given to the top three Market Place booths displaying pink pride. Meanwhile, the Adventist Health booth will have a fun Facebook photo booth with wacky pink props for walk participants. Images from the photo booth will be posted on the Adventist Health / Central Valley Network page the following day.
